Configuring Internal Network Card: Microsoft
Windows OS
- On your desktop, right-click
My Network Places, then select Properties.
Note: If you are running Windows XP and do not see My
Network Places on your desktop, you need to make the icon
visible.
- Right-click Wireless
Network Connection, and then select Properties.
A window similar to the following will appear:

- Select Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP), and then click the Properties button.
A window similar to the following will appear:

- Click the Obtain an IP address automatically radio
button.
- Click the Obtain DNS server address automatically
radio button.
- Click OK to close
the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
- Right-click Wireless
Network Connection, then select View Available
Wireless Networks. A window similar to the following will
appear:

- Select the Advanced…
button. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Click the Add…
button. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Type your SSID into the Network name (SSID):
field.
- Note: Your SSID can be obtained via
VIP
- Select Open from the Network Authentication:
drop-down menu.
- Select Disabled from the Data encryption:
drop-down menu.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- Click the Advanced
button. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Select the Access point (infrastructure) networks only
radio button.
- Un-Check the Automatically connect to non-preferred
networks checkbox if it is checked.
- Click the Close button to save your changes.
- A window similar to the following
will appear:

Note: In the Preferred networks: box you should see
the SSID that you entered in earlier. Move the SSID up the list
and Click on the OK or Apply button.
- After you have connected to USC's
wireless network, you will be required to authenticate to the
network, validate that your computer is configured to meet the
minimum security requirements for the network, and you will have
to establish an encrypted connection to USCs VPN.
