Insert the Setup CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. A window
similar to the following will appear:
Note: If the window doesn’t appear then right-click
the Start button and then choose the D: drive (this assumes
that “D” is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).
Double-Click on
Win-Client-802.11a-b-g-Ins-Wizard.exe to initiate the
installation of the software. A window similar to the following
will appear:
Choose the recommended option to install the client utilities
and driver. Click Next to continue the installation.
Because you have chosen to install the client utility and the
driver, you will be required to reboot your laptop at the end of
the installation. A window similar to the following will appear:
ClickYes to continue the installation. A window
similar to the following will appear:
The installation program asks if you would like to install the
client utilities in the C:\Program Files\Cisco Aironet
directory. ClickNext to accept. A window similar to
the following will appear:
The installation program informs you that it will add the
Cisco Aironet program icon to the Program Folder. Click
Next to continue. A window similar to the following will
appear:
Note: If your laptop is running Windows 2000 then proceed
to Step 10.
The installation program informs you that it the Cisco
wireless card can be configured with the Cisco Aironet Desktop
Utility (ADU) or Windows wireless configuration manager. ClickNext to continue. A window similar to the following will
appear:
Note: If the Windows Found New Hardware Wizard appears (it
will look similar to the window below), click Cancel.
Select Cisco ADU radio button (it is typically selected by
default). ClickNext to continue. A window similar
to the following will appear:
Insert your wireless card into your laptops Cardbus slot.
Click OK. The Setup Status screen will appear. The
installation process begins and you are notified as each software
component is installed.
When a message appears indicating that you computer needs to
be rebooted, click OK and allow your laptop to
restart.
After your laptop has been restarted, a shortcut for the Cisco
ADU will appear on the desktop
and a Cisco wireless icon
will appear in the system tray (which is located at the bottom
right corner on your screen).
Double -click the Cisco ADU shortcut on your desktop
to launch the Cisco ADU. A window similar to the following will
appear:
Click on the Profile Management tab. A window
similar to the following will appear:
Click the New button and the Profile Management
screen will appear. A window similar to the following will appear:
Enter a name for your new profile (i.e. Student Wireless or
Faculty/Staff Wireless) in the Profile Name field. Enter
USC’s Network Name (SSID) into the SSID1 field.
Click on the Enter button to save changes.
Note: If you are unaware of your SSID, it can be
obtained via VIP.
Once you have saved your new profile, you can select that
profile from the Profile Management tab and click the
Activate button or you can right-click on the Cisco
wireless icon in the
system tray (which is located at the bottom right hand corner of
your screen) and from Select Profile choose that profile to
activate. Once the Cisco wireless card has associated with one of
USC’s Access Points (APs) then the Cisco wireless icon
will appear in the system tray.
