Software Purchases

UTS offers a variety of software to students, faculty, staff, and departments through the university’s agreements with vendors. The software is available at discounted rates or, in some cases, at no charge.

For assistance with software, contact the UTS Service Desk at (803) 777-1800 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or by email at servicedesk@sc.edu.

Student Purchases

Students can purchase Microsoft Windows and Office Professional Plus 2013 for Windows or Office for Mac 2011 from UTS at educational discounts.

Software can be purchased at UTS, 1244 Blossom Street (at the corner of Blossom and Sumter) from 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Department Purchases

Software purchases for university computers are made on VIP. A department and fund number is required for all transactions, even software that is available for free.
A list of available software and pricing is on VIP.

1. Log in to VIP.
2. Click on the Technology link.
3. Select Software Distribution, then select Software for Work.
4. Click on the title of the software you would like to purchase.
5. Complete and submit the form. UTS will process your request and ship the software to your department.

Faculty and Staff Personal Purchases

Faculty and staff can purchase and download Microsoft Office for their personal use for only $9.95. One copy of either Office Professional Plus 2013 for Windows or Office for Mac 2011 can be purchased through this program. A backup DVD can be purchased for an additional $13.99.

Ordering Instructions:

1. Log in to VIP.
2. Choose the Technology link.
3. Select Software Distribution, then Software for Home.
4. Read the license agreement and make a note of the Program Code.
5. Click the link to the Microsoft Home Use Program website.
6. Enter your USC email address (only @mailbox.sc.edu addresses are accepted).
7. Enter the Program Code.
8. Check your university email inbox for a message from Microsoft with instructions for completing your order.
