Virtual Private Network

University Technology Services can provide secure access through a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to University resources. A VPN builds a data "tunnel" through public/private networks that can provide secure data access to private or internal resources. Data is encrypted through the VPN system and protected from unauthorized access or data "snooping".

Accessing the University VPN

To use the University VPN, you must have a VPN client on your computer. The University currently uses a Juniper Networks VPN client.

  1. Log into VIP at https://vip.sc.edu
  2. Click on the listing for Technology
  3. Click on the selection for Software Distribution
  4. Choose Show Software for Work
  5. Select Security - Faculty Staff
  6. Select the appropriate VPN software for your operating system
  7. Follow the prompts to download and install the VPN
