Virtual Private Network

University Technology Services can provide secure access through a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to University resources. A VPN builds a data "tunnel" through public/private networks that can provide secure data access to private or internal resources. Data is encrypted through the VPN system and protected from unauthorized access or data "snooping".

Accessing the University VPN

To use the University VPN, you must have a VPN client on your computer. The University currently uses a Juniper Networks VPN client.

  1. Navigate in your web browser to https://my.sc.edu/.
  2. Click the Faculty/Staff tab.
  3. Click "Purchase computer software."
  4. Log in with your VIP ID and Password.
    (Don't know it? Go to https://my.sc.edu/vipid/ to reset it).
  5. Under Software for Work, expand "Security."
  6. Click "Juniper VPN" to expand it, and click "Juniper VPN (Faculty/Staff)."
  7. Click the button at the bottom of the page that says "Go to https://sslvpn.sc.edu/facstaff/."
  8. Follow the prompts to download and install Juniper VPN.
