    Q. Am I required to run McAfee anti-virus?

All students who connect to the USC residence hall network are required to run anti-virus software.  The University does supply McAfee anti-virus software, but the Clean Access agent will recognize several leading anti-virus packages as well.  These include:

    • McAfee  (Internet Security Suite, VirusScan, Enterprise, Professional)
    • Trend Micro (PC-cillin, Office Scan Corporate, Internet Security Suite)
    • Symantec (Norton Anti-VIrus, Norton Internet Security, Norton SystemWorks, Norton Corporate, Symantec Anti-Virus, Symantec Client Security)

Please note that only limited support is provided for anti-virus products other than the USC supplied McAfee anti-virus versions.

    Q. Do I need to uninstall McAfee anti-virus when I leave the University?

When you either graduate or leave the University on a permanent basis, you are required to uninstall the McAfee software provided by the University. If you leave the University community for semester or summer break, you should continue to run McAfee anti-virus software and ensure that updates continue on a frequent schedule.

    Q. Will the USC McAfee software run outside the University network?

You do not have to be directly connected to the University network for McAfee anti-virus software to operate as expected. The McAfee virus definitions will continue to update per the configured schedule if your system is connected to the Internet.
