GROUPWISE AT USC: GW AND VIRUSES
Our GroupWise system uses virus detection at the mail
server level to detect viruses and will block messages
containing a virus to protect you and your data. If GWAVA (the
GW virus software) detects a virus in a message sent to you,
you will receive a notification that the message was not sent
because it contained a virus.

In many cases, email messages containing viruses are
unsolicited or SPAM. You should not reply to the original
sender. If, however, you know the sender, you may consider
contacting them letting them to let them know their message
contained a virus.
Although GW Internet email messages are protected from viruses
with GWAVA, you still need to have virus protection software
on your computer and keep it updated. All faculty, staff, and
students at USC can download McAfee anti-virus software for no
charge and can keep it updated to prevent new viruses from
infecting your computer. Visit the Academic Services Virus
Information Center at
http://uts.sc.edu/virus/ for more information.
Virus assistance is available by contacting the UTS Help Desk
at (803) 777-1800 or online at
http://helpdesk.uts.sc.edu.
