MASS EMAIL SERVICES
You Can Save Money Using UTS Bulk Email Service
Announcing…..
University Technology Services Division at USC is pleased to announce the
addition of bulk email services to its customers. Beginning
early this summer, USC departments and offices can send bulk
email to students, faculty, staff, applicants and other
affiliates without the cost of letterhead paper, envelopes,
handling charges and postage. The new service is less expensive
than the US Postal Service, and is designed to serve those
customers who currently spend significant resources doing mass
mailings.
To use bulk email service…..
- Complete the service level agreement on UTS’s web site:
www.uts.sc.edu/emailservices.
The service level agreement contains detailed instructions for
submitting a request and outlines security requirements.
- Compose your message.
- Obtain approval in writing from the data steward of your
target recipients at
www.sc.edu/policies/acaf702.html. (For example, bulk email
going to all students requires approval from the University
Registrar’s Office)
- Collect a list of target email addresses. If you need
assistance with this, please contact the UTS Help Desk at
7-1800.
- Schedule your mailing with UTS, allowing five days of
lead-time for UTS to process your request.
Cost……
The cost of the bulk email service is $60.00 per month, and you
must agree to one year’s service. If you don’t send out much
bulk email, the new service offers you the flexibility of paying
$350.00 for a one-time emailing. There is no limit on the number
of recipients that you can target with one message.
Some offices that have already used this new service include USC
President Sorensen’s office, the Undergraduate Admissions office
and the Financial Aid office. Helen Zeigler from the Division of
Business &Finance has recently sent a letter to faculty about
book adoption, requesting instructors to communicate the book
that they plan to use in their class for the upcoming semester.
Ms. Zeigler was enthusiastic about the ability to include a link
within the email message text to the web site where faculty can
find the adoption form, making it easy for the faculty members
to respond.
The future of this service is rosy. Senders can save money and
get their messages distributed quickly and easily, recipients
can get the word quickly, and since it’s paperless, we’re
helping to save the planet. Keep an eye on the University Technology Services
web site for a link to bulk email services.
