Email Services

University Technology Services offers a variety of email services and support for the University of South Carolina.


Faculty/Staff University Email

Most University faculty and staff email is maintained through the University Microsoft Exchange system. However, some colleges and departments may maintain their own email systems. If your email is not on the main USC Exchange system, you must contact your network administrator for support.

UTS supports the use of Microsoft Entourage, Outlook and Outlook Web Access for it's email system. Below are useful links for information and assistance:

SonicWall Spam Filtering -Over 98% of email coming into the University system is spam.  UTS uses SonicWall to automatically remove incoming spam from the system. However, you can check spam that has been filtered out, or configure SonicWall to your particular email requirements. Listserv

A listserv is a group email service. People can subscribe to a listserv group, and then automatically receive emails that are posted to the listserv. University Technology Services provides a listserv system for educational, instructional, and administrative use only.

Faculty, departments, colleges and organizations at the University of South Carolina may set up a listserv account. Students or student organizations must have a faculty or staff "co-sponsor" to create a listserv group.

A listserv can be configured to allow all members to submit a broadcast email, or it can be set up to allow only a few members or just the administrator to submit. Group lists are easy to create and can be modified at any time. For more information, contact the UTS Service Desk at 803-777-1800, or email: servicedesk@sc.edu.

Mass Email Services

University Technology Services offers mass email services to authorized departments and colleges of the University of South Carolina. Mass email is a fast, effective, and reliable way to communicate with large groups of people. For more information, visit our Mass Email Service Level Agreement page.

Mobile Email (Email on mobile devices)

Most mobile devices should be able to connect to the University's Student email and the faculty/staff exchange network.

Student Email (Outlook Live@edu)

The University of South Carolina administers student email systems in conjunction with Microsoft Live@edu. This email system provides students with:

  • An Internet accessible mailbox with 10GB of space, and up to 20MB for email attachments
  • Support for Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Apple Safari browsers
  • 7GB, password protected online storage
  • Document and photo sharing, mobile phone access, and more!
