Overview
Mobile devices include Internet-capable cell phones, PDAs, Smartphones such as Blackberry and Treo, and Apple iPhones and iPod Touch. These devices can be Internet enabled through your vendor. Most should be able to connect you to your University email.
You may purchase a mobile device through a commercial vendor. If you are a member of the faculty or staff of the University of South Carolina, you may be able to purchase a mobile device on State Contract for conducting University business.
Purchase a Mobile Device
Mobile devices can be purchased for faculty and staff to conduct University business. These devices, also referred to as eDevices, may be purchased through your college or department administrative or business contact. Configure E-Mail on a Mobile Device
- Connecting to USC GroupWise Email:
GroupWise email can be configured on Windows Mobile, Blackberry, and Palm mobile devices using software known as NotifyLink. Annual licenses for NotifyLink are available from University Technology Services for $150.
Once NotifyLink is installed, you can access your e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks using the data connection through your carrier.
About NotifyLink:
- Integrates calendar, e-mail, phone, contact, and task functions.
- Synchronize e-mail originating from the mobile device with the desktop “sent” file.
- Option to mark items as READ on the server if read on the device and also to DELETE on the server if deleted on the device.
- Offers a set of filters that can change the flow of messages sent to the mobile device.
- Keep personal calendars updated on both the server and mobile device.
- Synchronize on a timer and/or on demand.
- Accept or delete meetings and initiate meetings from your mobile device.
- Supports attachment downloads and uploads.
- NotifyLink is not compatible with the iPhone.
- NotifyLink is compatible with Windows Mobile, Blackberry, and Palm devices for GroupWise e-mail users.

How to get NotifyLink:
- Login to VIP.
- Click on Technology then choose Show Me Software Distribution.
- Choose Show Software at Work and select NotifyLink License from the Email category.
- Complete the form and submit it to Software Distribution.
- A work order will be generated and distributed to a desktop support technician.
- A technician will contact you and install/configure the appropriate software on your device.
