have teamed together to provide faculty, staff and students with
the unique opportunity to purchase state of the art computer
systems with discounted institutional pricing structures. We
have selected the most popular configuration options to satisfy
the broad spectrum of computing needs on campus.
These systems have been thoroughly tested and designed to work
effectively in the USC computing environment. Our staff, working
with Dell engineers, has created a “plug and play” system
designed for connectivity, security and performance.

USC has several laptop bundles and 2 desktop bundles for
student purchase. It is highly recommended that students
purchase a laptop. These are purchased through the
“Recommended Bundles” section. Other laptop and desktop
configurations can be available by clicking on the “Full
Catalog” option. Keep in mind that the recommend laptop
contains the optimal configurations for the best performance
and service. It is available at a significantly discounted
price. This laptop can still be customized and add-ons can
be purchased.
The recommended “bundled” computer designed for USC students
include:
- Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2)
- Most models have a 3-years onsite parts and labor
warranty
- Substantial student discount
The University of South Carolina also offers antivirus
protection to all students at no charge available through
VIP.
Login and click on Technology. Choose the “Show Me Software
Distribution” option. To download TrendMicro Office Scan on your
computer, choose the appropriate operating system (i.e. Windows
XP) and follow the instructions. Other software, including
Microsoft Office 2003, is also available at a discounted price
through University Technology Services. Students will use their
CarolinaCard to purchase this at the UTS Lobby, located at 1244
Blossom Street (corner of Blossom/Sumter St.).
If you are a faculty or staff member and need a new or
updated computer for your office or work environment, USC and
Dell have teamed together to provide you with two pre-configured
computing solutions (a desktop and a laptop) to meet your needs,
along with other equipment. Please check with your network
administrator before purchasing to determine recommended
department configurations. If you are unsure about who you
should contact, please call University Technology Services at
(803) 777-1800.

Faculty and staff affiliated with the University of South
Carolina (all campuses) have access to purchase computers and
equipment at a discounted price through the Dell Employee
Personal Purchase program. Employees receive up to 12% off on
many items and can purchase these for personal and home use at
any time. In addition, faculty and staff can sign up to receive
coupons and promotions in their e-mail. Purchases can be made
online or by phone (1-800-967-4970). Make sure to use the Member
